NEW YORK, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Crude oil prices lost ground in New York Tuesday, dropping to less than $87 a barrel as investors found the economy sputtered in Britain in the fourth quarter.

The Office of National Statistics said Britain's gross domestic output dropped 0.5 percent October through December.

March delivery light, sweet crude oil on the New York Mercantile Exchange lost $1.03 to $86.84, dropping to a low unseen since mid-December. Home heating oil prices shed 3.81 cents to $2.585 per gallon. Reformulated blendstock gasoline prices lost 4.86 cents to $2.3893 per gallon.

Henry Hub natural gas prices lost 10.7 cents to $4.473 per million British thermal units.

At the retail level, the price of unleaded gasoline dropped to $3.11 Tuesday from Monday's $3.112, AAA said.
