LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- A 16-year-old Georgia girl says she avoided being sexually assaulted by text-messaging her friends for help.

The unidentified Gwinnett County teenager said after a man grabbed her by the neck and dragged into the woods Aug. 20, she texted her whereabouts and situation to a friend, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Friday.

An unspecified number of the victim's friends soon arrived at the scene and the suspect fled in a car with two other men. The girl was not hurt.

The lead suspect, Hernandez-Ruiz, 19, was arrested by police Tuesday and was being held at Gwinnett County Detention Center.

The Journal-Constitution said Hernandez-Ruiz faces charges of kidnapping and sexual battery.
