ANN ARBOR, Mich., Sept. 11 (UPI) -- A Michigan crime
novelist is facing attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting
her father with a shotgun, authorities say.
Police allege local Ann Arbor novelist Lisa Reardon shot
George Hicks with a 20-gauge shotgun Aug. 21 and then attempted to
chase her father into his home in Dexter, Mich., by firing on a
locked door, The Detroit News reported Friday.
Hicks, 68, survived the shooting, suffering injuries to his
leg and buttocks.
Reardon's three crime novels all focus on violence in
unusual families, something the 47-year-old author hinted at when
detailing her life as the child of a regular drinker.
"People just make a big fuss over you because you're cute,
you're a kid, you're in a bar -- how funny," Reardon said at a 2004
bookstore reading, referring to her regular visits to a bar in
Ypsilanti, Mich., with her father during her childhood.
Angie Hicks, Reardon's sister, told police her sister
allegedly confessed to her following the August shooting.
"I just cannot believe I missed. I will never get another
chance," Hicks quoted her sister as saying.
The Detroit News said Reardon, who is being held on a
$500,000 bond, is facing life in prison if convicted.
