LOUISVILLE, Ky., July 28 (UPI) -- A female cadet was injured by a lightning strike at Fort Knox in Kentucky, and another woman was injured without taking a direct hit, officials said.

The cadets were hit Tuesday afternoon, WAVE-TV, Louisville, reported.

Ann Torphy, a Fort Knox spokeswoman, said the first woman was transported by helicopter to University Hospital in Louisville, where she was reported in critical condition. The other cadet was at a hospital on the base where she was reported in stable condition.

The cadets were at Fort Knox for training. Military officials did not release their names or any other information.

A sudden thunderstorm hit the area in mid-afternoon while the cadets were on a training exercise, military officials told WHAS-TV, Louisville.
