WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- A waitress fired because she shaved her head to show support for her cancer-stricken uncle in Winnipeg, Manitoba, is considering a human rights complaint.
On New Year's Eve, Stephanie Lozinski shaved her head to cheer her uncle who was in critical condition as cancer had spread to his bones, the Winnipeg Free Press reported Thursday.
The full-time university student said she had told her boss at the Sawatdee Thai fine dining restaurant about her plans and nothing was said, but then on Jan. 14, was told she was fired.
Lozinski said she either wore a wig or a scarf over her head to work, where visible tattoos are forbidden and female servers must wear Thai skirts.
Lozinski told the newspaper she has been making inquiries with Manitoba's Human Rights Commission about filing a complaint, as she doubts a male server with a shaven head would have been terminated.
Meanwhile, her uncle died last week before she could show him her shaved head, the report said.
